Reiki's Positive Effects on our Pets
Imagine reduced pain, better sleep, increased relaxation, improved appetite...in one simple treatment. These are just a few things Reiki can do for you. Hospitals have reported accelerated healing, fewer negative side effects from medication and improved mental attitudes, after patients received Reiki treatments. While our pets cannot tell us directly, the results reported by caregivers and veterinarians indicate that our pets enjoy the same benefits that we do.
I first learned about Reiki when my daughter was admitted to the hospital for a terminal illness, stage 4 cancer that had consumed more than a quarter of her body, and all other methods of healing had failed. I was open to anything and figured what could it hurt?
Over the course of the next 3 months I saw amazing things happen while she was receiving Reiki treatments that could not be passed off by rational explanation. Her white blood cell counts dropped significantly, fevers stopped altogether, breathing seemed less labored, and all by a simple touch. While it didn't always take away her pain, her ability to cope with the symptoms increased tremendously. I knew then, that I had to learn more about this thing called Reiki.
Reiki is a gentle and noninvasive therapy and causes no stress or discomfort. Healthy animals enjoy deep relaxation and the same benefits people receive from stress reduction and better sleep. Sick and dying animals benefit when medication, pain, depression, and anxiety are reduced, and when the side effects of necessary medications can be reduced to improve the quality of life.
One thing I love about Reiki is that you do not need to KNOW what is wrong or what needs healing, the Reiki goes where it is needed most and does the work for you. It is as though the hands of God are guiding you, and you are but a conduit, and need only follow what you have been taught, ask for guidance and know in your heart that you are helping someone or something feel better. It is NOT a cure, but instead a helping hand. I have heard Reiki explained in many ways but one of my favorites is "in healing the mind, the body soon follows". Contrary to popular belief, it is not a religion, so it does not conflict with either a client or practitioner's personal beliefs. And because it is not invasive and does not involve any type of manipulation, Reiki is safe to use with all other forms of medical treatment and medication regardless of the patients condition.
The various forms of Reiki can be compared to the colors of the rainbow, each being different in their own way but equally beautiful. Reiki practitioners often encourage others to learn this ancient Japanese healing technique used for stress reduction, relaxation, and the promotion of natural healing, and a form of energy balancing for their own ongoing benefit and for the benefit of others. Many doctors and veterinarians are now offering this alternative treatment to their patients as well. I have been told that although Reiki is a gift to be shared, you do not need to charge a huge price for it. One who cannot afford a session can even offer an "energy" exchange, meaning something they have that they are willing to barter for. I am constantly humbled by the amazing occurrences with each session. My only wish is that more people will open their minds, hearts and spirits to this wonderful method of healing.
